Brian began his career in 1988, leaving school at the age of 16 to undertake an electrical engineering apprenticeship with major MEP contractor Matthew Hall. He successfully completed the programme, earning a Diploma in Building Services Engineering (Electrical).
After seven years, Brian moved into consultancy and joined a practice where he remained for nearly 18 years. During this time, he worked on, managed and led numerous high-profile fit-out and residential projects for major clients across the legal, insurance, technology and media sectors. His residential experience included prestigious new-build developments in Knightsbridge and South Kensington.
Brian subsequently took responsibility for leading and managing the firm’s 80-strong London design team. Seeking a new challenge, he joined a smaller building services and sustainability practice that had recently been acquired by a US firm recognised for its expertise in deep-green and sustainable building design.
Over the following decade, Brian helped grow the UK offices to more than 100 people, progressing first to Regional Director and then to Managing Director for the UK and Europe. His responsibilities also included overseeing the growth of an Eastern European office to nearly 70 people.
During the same period, Brian established the firm’s presence in the workplace sector, securing fit-out, refurbishment and new-build commissions and contributing to projects that received two British Council for Offices Regional Awards.
In his more recent roles, Brian has helped firms strengthen their governance, financial and strategic planning, project management, product quality, innovation and communication with clients and colleagues.
Brian retains a keen eye for detail and enjoys undertaking strategic design reviews. These enable him to develop a thorough understanding of each client’s brief, assess the proposed response and ensure that commitments are delivered with care and attention. He also leads detailed technical due diligence reviews of buildings for prospective occupiers.
Passionate about professional training and development, Brian has established and led CIBSE-accredited training schemes within several firms. A key focus of his role will be the continued development of the business’s training platform for colleagues at every level.
Brian is Chair of the CIBSE Training and Development Panel, with which he has been involved for more than 10 years. In this capacity, he advises firms seeking to develop and accredit their training schemes and carries out accreditation assessments. Brian was recently elected to the CIBSE Council and is a Fellow of CIBSE.
