A dual-chartered qualified mechanical engineer with over 15 years’ experience, Eddie Beer is a Director at IN2 Engineering and has played a central role in establishing and expanding IN2’s presence in London since joining in 2015
Originally based in IN2’s Dublin headquarters, Eddie relocated to the UK in 2017 where he played a key role in establishing the London office. Since then, he has been instrumental in building a strong and diverse project portfolio across the UK, bringing an ethos of high-quality, innovative and sustainable design while continuing to grow the capability and reputation of the London team.
In addition to overseeing all London-based projects and ensuring their successful delivery, Eddie leads project teams and works closely with clients, architects, contractors, developers, councils and wider stakeholders. He also leads IN2’s Group Retrofit & Heritage offering, and provides strategic direction for the London office, spearheading the firm’s continued expansion across the UK market.
Eddie specialises in the design and delivery of complex urban buildings across commercial, residential, venues/hospitality and heritage sectors.
Across planning, design and construction, he has led projects delivering over 10,000 residential units, 3,000 hotel rooms and more than 1 million sq ft of commercial real estate.
His portfolio includes landmark developments such as the redevelopment of Waterhouse Square in Holborn, Chelsea Barracks, Formula 1’s headquarters at 40 Broadway, the Bellamy tower in Canary Wharf, and the Hilton Garden Inn at Heathrow Terminal 2. Earlier in his career, he also contributed to projects including Deanston Wharf, the PET Centre at St James’s Hospital and Queens Square.
Eddie began his career as an Energy Engineer with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), where he carried out on-site energy assessments and supported the delivery of energy reduction strategies across both public and private sector projects. His work included low-carbon technologies, energy demand management and technical compliance, forming a strong foundation in sustainability that continues to inform his approach today.
He is known for a pragmatic and delivery-focused approach to engineering, avoiding over engineering and focusing on solutions that are efficient, buildable and aligned with project objectives. He believes engineering should be tailored to each project and is particularly recognised for his ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
Eddie has a particular passion for retrofit, heritage and conservation projects, where he focuses on integrating modern building services within existing structures in a sensitive and considered way.
His approach ensures that sustainability, building performance and architectural intent are aligned, allowing buildings to be improved without compromising their character.
He holds degrees in mechanical building services, electrical services and energy management, including a first-class honours MSc in Energy Management. He is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Energy Engineer, and a member of CIBSE, Engineers Ireland and the Energy Institute. He has published peer-reviewed research on renewable energy technologies and regularly contributes to industry CPDs, technical discussions and panel events.
Outside of work, Eddie is a keen sports fan and musician. He follows Irish rugby and football, enjoys travelling, hiking and sailing, and plays piano, performs in a band and occasionally DJs.
