Overseeing the addition of an upper floor to a protected University building
About the project
In a huge boost for the learning facilities at University of Galway, this major regeneration of the existing 4 storey protected NUIG James Hardiman Library building and Nursing Library building will fundamentally transform the library and adjust the balance towards a greater focus on learning activity and engagement.
The new Learning Commons will lead the way for embracing, enhancing and developing modern methods of teaching and learning. The core aim of the development is to create a facility that will serve the current and future needs across the University’s Colleges collectively, creating learning laboratories and collaborative knowledge share venues.
IN2 Engineering were appointed as Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineer, Sustainability & BREEAM specialist, as well as AV specialist for this extensive refurbishment / transformation project which will include the addition of a further floor to the building.
As a protected structure, it was proposed that the existing glazing will be retained, and a new climate wall erected inside. The transformational refurbishment will include addition of a central atrium space, additional of raised access floors throughout, and all new building services installations.
