About Ian Carroll - Board Director - Aviation & Defence at IN2 Engineering

Ian Carroll is a founding member and Board Director at IN2 Engineering, with over 30 years of experience in building services engineering. Since co-founding the practice in 2002, he has played a central role in growing IN2 from a Dublin-based consultancy into an international engineering firm, while continuing to lead the delivery of complex projects across multiple sectors.

Ian specialises in electrical building services design, with extensive expertise across MV and LV power systems, standby generation, UPS, BMS and integrated building technologies. He has delivered a wide range of high-profile projects including Dublin Airport developments, Knock Basilica and Kylemore Abbey, and is particularly experienced in technically demanding environments where reliability, resilience and system integration are critical.

In his role as Board Director, Ian also contributes to the strategic direction of the business, supporting the growth of key sectors including aviation, defence and infrastructure. He works closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure projects are delivered to the highest technical and operational standards. Known for his practical, delivery-focused approach, Ian places strong emphasis on buildability, coordination and long-term performance, ensuring engineering solutions translate effectively from design through to construction and operation.

Alongside his project leadership role, Ian heads IN2’s Athlone office and continues to lead major projects across Ireland and internationally. More recently, he has taken on additional responsibility for the firm’s people function, overseeing HR, recruitment, office management, health and safety, and quality systems including ISO compliance. Balancing both project delivery and organisational leadership, Ian plays a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of the business.

Ian began his career in 1994, working on major projects for clients including Intel, Guinness and Microsoft. He later joined Honeywell Control Systems in the UK, where he developed expertise in advanced building management and control systems, before returning to Ireland to work with Homan O’Brien Associates. This combination of technical depth, practical experience and leadership continues to underpin his contribution to IN2 today.
