John Murphy

About John Murphy - Associate Director - Electrical & Utilities at IN2 Engineering

John Murphy is an Associate Director at IN2 Engineering, based in the firm’s Athlone office, where he leads the electrical engineering team and supports the delivery of projects across Ireland. 

Since joining IN2 in 2017, John has progressed from Senior Electrical Engineer to Associate Director, building a strong track record in delivering technically robust and well-coordinated electrical designs. 

A Chartered Electrical Engineer, John has extensive experience in the design and delivery of electrical building services systems across a wide range of sectors including healthcare, aviation, residential, education and heritage projects.

John's expertise includes MV and LV power systems, lighting and emergency lighting design, fire detection and alarm systems, ICT infrastructure, standby power, security systems and integrated building services coordination.

John plays a key role in managing projects from early design through to construction and handover, working closely with clients, design teams and contractors to ensure successful delivery. He is responsible for leading project teams, overseeing design outputs and maintaining high standards of collaboration across engineers and technicians. In addition to project delivery, he contributes to business development, client relationship management and the commercial performance of projects.

His project experience includes major infrastructure and refurbishment works such as the Dublin Airport Terminal 1 & 2 Hold Baggage System upgrades, community nursing units delivered under PPP frameworks, the University of Galway Goldcrest Student Accommodation, and heritage and tourism projects including Kylemore Abbey and Strokestown Park House and Famine Museum.

John began his career with JV Tierney & Co. and Noel Lawler Consulting Engineers, where he gained experience across healthcare, education, retail and commercial sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Services Engineering and Energy Management from Technological University Dublin and is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland. He also completed a Master of Science in Renewable Energy and Energy Management at Ulster University, where his dissertation was recognised with the McBride Award.
