Shane O’Brien is a Director at IN2 Engineering with over 16 years of experience in the building services engineering sector. He specialises in sustainable building services design and the development of energy decarbonisation strategies for large-scale infrastructure and public sector projects.
Shane joined IN2 Engineering in 2016 and has progressed through a number of senior technical and leadership roles within the practice, becoming Associate Director in 2021 and Director in 2026. In his role, he leads multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivers complex building services solutions across a wide range of sectors including commercial offices, hospitality, residential and education developments.
His portfolio includes a number of large-scale developments such as the WeWork Charlemont and Harcourt Road offices in Dublin, the Abbey Street Hotel development in Dublin, the T4 Hotel development at Heathrow Airport in London, and major residential schemes including Hamilton Gardens Cabra and Adamstown ACD. Shane has also contributed to national energy decarbonisation initiatives through projects delivered under the Department of Education and Office of Public Works Energy Pathfinder programmes.
Shane holds an Honours Degree in Sustainable Design and later completed a Graduate Certificate in Energy Systems and Decarbonisation at Dublin City University. In 2025 he achieved Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with Engineers Ireland.
Outside of his professional work, Shane enjoys an active lifestyle and is a keen golfer and runner. He is also involved in coaching underage teams in his local community with Ramor United GAA and Virginia FC.
