A 'third space' for the community
About the project
The new Boyle Community Library is set to be a valuable addition to the small town of Boyle and compliment the recent public realm improvements locally. Located on the Boyle River where the Royal Hotel used to be, the new library will employ cutting-edge technology and provide a ‘third space’ which can host events and workshops, and innovative services. The proposed library will be 1 storey high.
For Boyle’s new Community Library, IN2 have been appointed to deliver the Mechanical and Electrical services installations throughout. The design philosophy for the development is to deliver highly effective building services and environmental design solutions in harmony with the Roscommon County Council’s requirements and current Building Regulations and Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) guidelines.
These guidelines determined the building’s utilisation of natural ventilation, for which IN2 created a representative energy model to conduct analysis on the proposed ventilation strategy, as well as CFD Analysis to assess the comfort level attached to the natural ventilation. IN2 used EDSL TAS v.9.5.6 to stimulate the library with and without the ground duct ventilation through which it was found that all spaces assessed were predicted to provide adaptive comfort in full compliance with CIBSE TM52.
TGD Part L 2022 of the Building Regulations requires limitation of solar gain through the building fabric. IN2 undertook thermal analysis by creating a 3D model of the building, yielding positive results of full compatibility with the requirements based on glazing with a solar transmittance (g-value) of ≤ 0.40. IN2 also conducted NZEB methodology to ensure the building’s Energy and Carbon Part L 2022 Compliance.
