  • Using cutting-edge M&E design to create a welcoming environment for daycare patients and upgrade it to a A-rated building

    About the project

This project involved the 4,000m2 extension and complete refurbishment of a 2-storey residential and daycare building that provides care to the elderly and people with learning disabilities. The design intent for the project was to provide a bright and comfortable environment for the residents and a welcoming facility for daycare patients.

All life safety systems such as fire alarms and emergency lighting were installed in accordance with DAC requirements. Kitchen facilities, classrooms and day areas were designed to provide services that were fully functional to comply with the HIQA legislation, whilst being economical to run and maintain.

IN2 was responsible for the design of Mechanical, Electrical and lift services installations including supervision of Installation works during construction. IN2 also undertook the role of Sustainability Assessor which included the production of Part L compliance certification.

IN2 informed the project architects on how to improve the building fabric in terms of improving heat losses and airtightness. A low-energy design approach was applied using Thermal modelling software to determine the enhanced building performance. Low energy LED lighting with daylight compensated lighting controls were installed throughout. The hot water demand was met by roof-mounted solar collectors.

IN2's M&E design went a long way to upgrading this 1950s poorly constructed structure into an A-rated building.
