  • Assisting a major public authority in reaching Net-Zero across its 100+ property portfolio

    About the project

Norfolk County Council (NCC)'s Future Ready (FR) Property Enhancement Initiative refers to its ambitious decarbonisation programme for its 100+-strong property portfolio. NCC’s property portfolio consists of social houses, residential developments, cultural centres, and fire stations, amongst others.

The collaboration with this major public authority marks a major milestone for IN2’s London office in the public realm.

The programme, whilst focussed on revamping existing buildings to improve usability and overall comfort, is geared towards ensuring long term cost savings, carbon emissions reduction, the elimination of fossil fuels across the portfolio, longevity, and functionality. It will be organised into tranches of work (10 buildings per tranche) and phased over a period of 5 years.

Working closely with construction company Mace, IN2’s role in this project is to safeguard the council’s design requirements. The project involves IN2 working closely on library and museum projects specifically.

Currently, IN2 is overseeing the development of a converted farmhouse that is going to become a museum. Composed of 4No. buildings, the contractor’s design features a central point for generating heat for the whole site. However, due to the age of the farmhouse, the routes and condition of the existing in ground pipework is still unknown. When it comes to the redesign, IN2 will have to ensure that it complies with the council’s designs and plans for the site.
