  • Balancing the disturbance of a major refurb with strict conservation requirements for centuries-old art

    About the project

The Wallace Collection is a national museum in an historic London town house. In 25 galleries are unsurpassed displays of French 18th century painting, furniture and porcelain with superb Old Master paintings, and a world-class armoury.

IN2 undertook environmental and lighting analysis and design for the refurbishment of both East and West Galleries.

The environmental analysis involved the introduction of bespoke lay-light to the Galleries in order to enable view of the sky and some provision of daylight without compromising strict Conservation requirements. This ensures that both peak and cumulative light exposure were within design requirements.

IN2 was also responsible for the design and site supervision of the internal lighting installations. This design was developed based on LED technology (replicating halogen lamp colour) in order to ensure a low energy lighting installation with minimal maintenance requirements.
