TM59 Overheating Assessments

TM59 assessments evaluate the risk of overheating in residential developments using dynamic thermal modelling.

TM59-compliant modelling is crucial for assessing internal temperatures under future climate scenarios

IN2 conducts overheating assessments considering occupancy patterns, ventilation strategies and building fabric performance

CIBSE TM59 is an adaptive thermal comfort methodology, that acknowledges people will adapt to higher internal temperatures during continuous warm weather periods. Conversely, it accounts for thermal discomfort experienced during cooler external conditions, or if hotter weather suddenly occurs.

IN2's assessment methodology accounts for scenarios in which thermal comfort conditions are generally warm throughout the year and deemed tolerable whilst extremely hot conditions could be experienced on a particular day / hour which may deem natural ventilation insufficient.

Overheating assessments are increasingly required at planning stage to demonstrate occupant comfort, resilience and compliance with policy guidance.

IN2's TM59 Overheating Assessment services include:
TM59 overheating assessment reports
Design optimisation and mitigation recommendations
