Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Life Cycle Assessment evaluates the environmental impact of a building over its entire lifecycle, from material extraction to end of life.

IN2 undertakes whole-life carbon and environmental impact assessments to support low-carbon design and informed material selection

LCA supports carbon reduction targets and helps identify opportunities to reduce embodied and operational impacts

IN2 can compile a Building Lifecycle Assessment report. This is a key strategic tool for the upkeep and maintenance of not only existing buildings, but also an investment consideration for newly built or refurbished buildings, ensuring future maintenance of asset value.

Our team leverages on their past expertise in sustainability and can also identify opportunities for carbon and energy reduction, offering better, more sustainable solutions:

Step 1. Preliminary design support (RIAI 1): Provide qualitative advice on best practice structural solutions based on material’s embodied carbon.
Step 2. Preliminary Design Assessment (RIAI 2a-b): Estimate of embodied carbon, assess current performance against project goal (this will become the Base Model).
Step 3. Design Optimisation Assessment (RIAI 2c): Carry out a comparative analysis based on the Base Model and the material quantities for the proposed structural solutions.
Step 4. Tender Specifications Support (RIAI 3): Create a final iteration of the Proposed Model solution with Material selection criteria included.
Step 5. Construction Technical Support (RIAI 4): Provide technical support to the contractor in material selection validation, create the final AS-BUILT embodied carbon model.
