Optimising existing office and lab spaces whilst maintaining a live environment
About the project
IN2 was appointed to design an extension to the exisiting headquarters building for Andor Technology. The first phase of this project involved the remodelling of the existing floor space in order to maximise its use for this growing pharmaceutical grade optics company. The project included the conversion of an existing workshop area into high-end optical laboratories. The second phase was new build engineering and laboratory accommodation which were previously housed off site
The Andor Technology project consisted of phased construction works for a combination of new office accommodation and new laboratory services. All works were carried out while maintaining full factory and office operations and IN2 was responsible for ensuring that all services remained live throughout the construction period. Office areas were decanted on a phased basis from existing space into the newly constructed office accommodation.
IN2 was required to carry out a full survey of the existing services on site to determine the location and condition of all systems before determining the best course of action to modernise the spaces in line with the client’s requirements.
The existing double height workshop area was stripped of all services and two new floors of office accommodation were constructed. IN2 was responsible for the design of the phasing out of the existing workshop services as well as the new mechanical and electrical services to be installed for the office accommodation.
IN2 designed the specialist laboratory services to be installed for the 6 new high end specialised laboratories. The specialist services included compressed air systems, vacuum, anti vibration mountings for the laboratories and door access interlock, which was required due to the presence of lasers within the optical laboratory spaces.
