Ensuring a reliable cooling strategy in Doha's extreme desert landscape
About the project
ExxonMobil’s 6MW IT data centre in Doha, Qatar, required a highly reliable cooling strategy capable of protecting critical infrastructure within an extreme desert climate. IN2 was appointed to develop the facility’s environmental control strategy, focusing on optimising its Comms Room Air Conditioning systems and maintaining stable conditions for continuous operation.
Detailed analysis of temperature and relative humidity identified that excessively low operating temperatures were contributing to elevated humidity levels within the facility. IN2 developed a revised operating strategy based on more moderate temperature setpoints, successfully resolving the humidity issues without compromising the reliability or performance of the IT infrastructure.
The optimised strategy reduced cooling demand, improved operational efficiency and lowered running costs, contributing to a Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.3. The project demonstrates how intelligent analysis and carefully calibrated operating conditions can enhance the resilience, efficiency and sustainability of mission-critical data centres.
Key highlights
