Lighting Design

Our lighting design balances functionality, visual comfort and architectural intent.

IN2 develops lighting designs that enhance safety, wellbeing and usability while minimising energy use in line with Net-Zero and sustainability goals.

Design internal and external environments, meet compliance requirements and satisfy sustainability objectives.

Good lighting improves comfort, safety and perception of space while supporting energy efficiency. Lighting design for occupied workspaces is governed by EN 12464-1 and the CIBSE/SLL Lighting Guides, which set illuminance levels, uniformity requirements and glare limits by task and space type. In the UK, compliance with Approved Document L is also a key consideration: lighting loads, controls and zoning all affect the energy performance of the building as assessed under Part L.

Lighting controls: presence detection, daylight-linked dimming, zone switching and DALI-based systems, are an integral part of our work. A well-controlled lighting installation uses significantly less energy than the installed load suggests, and gets the building closer to its modelled performance in practice.

IN2's lighting design services include:

  • Lighting layout design and lux level calculations (EN 12464-1, SLL Lighting Guides)
  • Internal and external lighting design
  • Lighting controls specification: presence detection, DALI, daylight-linked dimming
  • Energy-efficient lighting strategies for Part L compliance
  • BREEAM and WELL lighting credit support
  • Glare assessment and visual comfort analysis
  • Dialux / Relux modelling and performance visualisation
  • Coordination with emergency lighting and life safety systems

IN2 provide lighting design services across multiple sectors including cultural, commercial, residential and industrial
